One of the Southeast’s most versatile sports announcers
and former Disney Sports executive, Davis joins co-host Pat Clarke on
the one-hour Florida sports news and features program.
Davis possesses a unique and varied resume. From his collegiate
career as a star football player with the University of Tennessee, athletics
management and coaching positions at two universities, management posts
with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), and tournament director
for one of the PGA Tour’s most prestigious events, Davis has had wide-ranging,
hands-on sports experience at several levels.
Davis has served as analyst for a variety of television
networks and syndicators, primarily in the Southeast. He has offered commentary
on Sunshine Network’s coverage of University of Central Florida football,
basketball and baseball for several years. Davis has also worked Southeastern
Conference football and basketball, Atlantic Coast Conference and SEC
baseball and Nashville Kats arena football for a number of networks/syndicators
including Sunshine and Jefferson-Pilot.
When not pursuing his love of broadcasting, Davis has
been an integral part of the growth of Disney Sports since 1996, serving
as Tournament Chairman for the National Car Rental Golf Classic and manager
at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex.
Davis had a celebrated collegiate career at the University
of Tennessee where he was an honorable mention All-American, all-Southeastern
Conference defensive back and member of the Academic All-SEC team in 1986.
He continued at UT after graduation to earn a master’s degree in history.
His early professional career achievements included serving
as director of the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, special
assistant to the executive director of the USOC and assistant football
coach at the University of the Pacific.
In 1994, Davis arrived in Palo Alto, CA, and served as
assistant athletic director at Stanford University – the same year Tiger
Woods was a Cardinal freshman – fueling Davis’ passion for golf. While
overseeing golf course operations at the tradition-rich school, Davis
witnessed the meteoric rise of Woods, which resulted in, for the first
time in school history, a paid gallery of over 3,000 at his debut.
