Dan Healy’s Fantasy Forecast

Quarterbacks

Brett Favre vs. Chi.:  Favre retreats to the friendly confines of Lambeau Field, after giving up four interceptions to the Buccaneers last week.  This week, he draws the Chicago Bears, which are coming off of a much needed victory vs. Detroit.
Trent Green vs. Ariz.:  The Cardinals are suffering on both sides of the ball.  The defense is susceptible to the pass play theyre surrendering 247 passing yards per contest.
Mark Brunell vs. Pitt.: The Steelers travel to Jacksonville to take on the elusive Mark Brunell.  The quarterback will use all of his available weapons which include WR Jimmy Smith, and RBs Fred Taylor and Stacy Mack.  Look for the Jags to put up a good fight, before they succumb to the Steelers.
Steve Beuerlein vs. S.D.:  The Chargers secondary has shown its true colors, and it looks to be a white flag.  San Diego was already surrendering 259 passing yards per game, but now theyve lost starting CB Ryan McNeil (broken arm), so rookie CB Quentin Jammer should draw a start opposite the suspect CB Alex Molden.  The Broncos should be able to exploit this duo.

Running Backs

Stephen Davis vs. Dal.:  Head coach Steve Spurrier used a heavy dose of Davis to successfully defeat the St. Louis Rams last week.  Hopefully, hes learned that if you have questionable talent at the QB position you should run the football when you have a franchise back, who is available to do so.
Ricky Williams vs. Buf.:  The Dolphins will want to keep Drew Bledsoe and Co. off of the field as much as possible.  The best way to do so is to use a ball-control offense where RB Ricky Williams gets 25+ carries, and QB Ray Lucas uses short passes to keep the chains moving.
Priest Holmes vs. Ariz.: Holmes is coming off of a 193 rushing yard performance against Seattle.  He draws another weak run-defense in the Arizona Cardinals.  Another performance like last weeks should make him eligible for a John Madden tur-duckett.
William Green vs. Car.:  The Browns are emphasizing the run during the last third of their regular season schedule.  Green has benefited from the injury to Jamal White.  Hes rushed for 96 and 114 yards, respectively during the past two weeks.  The Browns draw a battered Carolina defense that will likely be missing MLB Dan Morgan, and OLB Hannibal Navies.

Garrison Hearst vs. Sea.:  Fellow 49er RB Kevan Barlow has a sprained knee, so it looks to be all Hearst this week.  He draws the NFLs worst run-defense in the Seattle Seahawks, who are giving up 174 rushing yards per game, on average.

Wide Receivers

Driver/Glenn/Franks vs. Chi.: The Packers return home after a very unwelcome contest in Tampa Bay.  Look for Brett Favre to get this group untracked, and back to their winning ways.
Gonzalez/Kennison/Morton vs. Ariz.:  The Chiefs wideouts finally got their hands on the ball especially WR Johnny Morton, who through 12 weeks has been a non-factor in the Kansas City passing game.  Hopefully, QB Trent Green will spread the ball around even though his two favorite receivers continue to be RB Priest Holmes and TE Tony Gonzalez.
Smith/Shaw/Brady vs. Pitt.:  Quarterback Mark Brunell gets the Steelers in his house.  The Jags passing attack isnt nearly as strong as when WR Keenan McCardell lined-up opposite WR Jimmy Smith.  But, the Jags will have to make due against a Steelers pass defense that is giving up over 248 passing yards per game.  The Steelers will need to lower that number to be taken seriously as a post-season contender.

Smith/McCaffrey/Sharpe vs. S.D.:  The Broncos may get TE Shannon Sharpe back for this contest.  Hell pre-occupy Chargers LBs and safeties, so they may not be able to concentrate on the Broncos running game as much as they would like.  The Broncos wideouts will test suspect CB Alex Molden and rookie CB Quentin Jammer.

Kickers

Jason Elam vs. S.D.:  The AFC West is a tightly packed division.  Every point counts, especially in the wild card scenario, so dont expect head coach Mike Shanahan to let any scoring opportunity slip past him.
David Akers vs. St. L.:  The Eagles likely will start third-string QB A.J. Feeley.  His ability to put together long scoring drives is questionable at best.  Look for head coach Andy Reid to use PK David Akers as his scoring threat anytime the ball ends up on fourth-down inside the Rams 35-yardline.
John Carney vs. T.B.:  This is likely to be a much tighter contest than many people think.  The NFC South is shaping up to be quite a race.  At the moment, the Saints may be on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.  Head coach Jim Haslett will go for three points in the climate-controlled confines of the Superdome since touchdowns are few and far between against the Buccaneers.
Martin Gramatica vs. N.O.:  The Bucs lost their Week One match-up against the Saints.  Its a race to the finish, and potential home field advantage in the playoffs, so look for the Bucs to take field goals when the situation presents itself.
Morten Andersen vs. Ariz.:  This ol codger just keeps on ticking like an old Timex watch.  Hes been a reliable 21-for-23 on field goal attempts this season.  Hes playing at home in Arrowhead Stadium, and he should fair well against the faltering Cardinals.

Defenses

Green Bay vs. Chi.:  The Bears are having difficulty putting enough parts together to field one quarterback.  Both Chris Chandler and Jim Miller are ailing, and 3rd stringer Henry Burris is inexperienced.  The Packs at home and theyll be unsympathetic to the Bears plight.
Baltimore vs. Cinn.:  Although MLB Ray Lewis has elected to have season-ending surgery, the Ravens should have little trouble creating pressure on Cincy QB Jon Kitna and the Bengals’ floundering offense.  This game seems ripe with interceptions.
Philadelphia vs. St. L.:  The Eagles will apply lots of pressure on the Rams and QB Kurt Warner.  The Eagles defense and special teams must carry the offense, which will feature 3rd string QB A.J. Feeley.
St. Louis vs. Phil.:  The Rams faltered last week against Washington.  Their next loss will assure a “one & done” scenario that will prevent them from potentially making the NFC playoffs.  As a result, the defense will have to apply heavy pressure on the Eagles young QB, hoping for turnovers and resulting scores.
Tampa Bay vs. N.O.:  The Bucs havent forgotten the Week One loss to new divisional rival New Orleans Saints.  Although the Bucs are atop the NFC South, they must maintain constant defensive pressure due to their inconsistent offense.  With Saints RB Deuce McAllister less than 100% for this contest, the Saints will likely have to pass more than they may feel comfortable doing.  The Bucs secondary will lay in waiting.
