The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that All-Pro running back
Edgerrin James will miss at least two more games with an injured left knee.
James hurt the knee October 25 at Kansas City. He then missed the
November 4 contest at Buffalo, snapping his streak of 38 consecutive
regular- season starts, as well as this past Sunday’s home game versus
Miami.
“Our doctors felt it was appropriate to shut him down for another two or
three weeks,” Colts president Bill Polian said Monday at a press conference.
“They’re not certain what the severity is.”
James has rushed for 662 yards and three touchdowns on 151 carries in six
games this season. He has also caught 24 balls for 193 yards.
Rookie Dominic Rhodes has filled in for James. He carried 34 times for
100 yards and one touchdown and caught four passes for 45 yards against
Buffalo. However, Rhodes was held in check by the Dolphins, gaining just 42
yards on 14 attempts.
Meanwhile, Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning was diagnosed with a
hairline fracture of the part of the jaw that holds the teeth. Manning was
injured in the fourth quarter of the Colts’ loss to Miami. His teeth were
stabilized with a splint similar to an orthodontic retainer.
“The splint is likely to remain for four weeks and he should be able to
practice and play, which obviously is good news,” Polian said.
The Colts (4-4) play at New Orleans Sunday.
