Motorcycle Riders Radio Network began in September of
2001 on 740AM “The Team” with The Big Guy at the helm. It currently
airs for one hour every Sunday from 8A.M. to 10A.M. During that two hour
the show creates a Motorcycle Haven for the all the lovers of the open
road, no matter what the demographics might be! Even though the format
is a little different from most radio call-in shows, it offers informative
talk about almost anything pertaining to motorcycles and a lot of comic
relief to get the day off to a good start.
It was a tough beginning getting listeners, especially motorcycle riders,
at that hour of the day but they started to tune in – in droves. It’s
listener base has been growing regularly ever since, with some very impressive
guests being interviewed by ‘The Big Guy.’ The show is now expanded to
a two-hour format, airing from 8A.M. to 10 A.M. every Sunday.
‘The Big Guy’ is Marty Francis who brought his “gift of gab”
and love of motorcycles to the area and given riders of every type of
motorcycle and from every walk of life a voice to be heard on “Motorcycle
Riders Radio Network.”
While not a native of Florida, having been born near Boston, Marty has
lived in the Orlando area since the age of 7. When he first arrived in
the state, the roads seemed made for motorcycles .. they were wide open
and most of them were unpaved. Disney and Universal didn’t, yet discover
Orlando, or Central Florida. It was only natural, then, that Marty’s first
bike was a Yamaha 125cc, borrowed from a close friend. The love affair
between Marty and the motorcycle began with that bike.
It wasn’t long before he’d graduated to bigger and faster bikes. He watched
his family grow and couldn’t ride as often as he wished, but he was a
die-hard biker and, now that the kids are grown, has come full circle.
Many will recognize Marty’s voice from various radio commercials on Orlando’s
numerous radio stations. People were constantly telling him to get his
own show. It was only a little over a year ago that the opportunity came
up with 740 The Team/ClearChannel Radio, when someone suggested that a
motorcycle show was needed on the air. There were other sports represented,
but no show for bikers. The voice joined the idea and both ‘The Big Guy’
and Motorcycle Riders Radio Network were created.
