Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis will be sidelined again with a
knee injury. The former MVP will need about two weeks to recover from
arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus cartilage in his left
knee.
Davis, who had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee earlier this year,
has said that he considered retirement after missing six games this season
and 30 since 1999.
The 29-year old started out of the backfield for the Broncos in the last
two games against Oakland and San Diego. In three games this season, Davis
has rushed for 254 yards on 71 carries, without scoring a touchdown.
Mike Anderson is likely to get the bulk of the carries next week against
the Redskins.
Anderson has carried the ball 110 times for 465 yards and three
touchdowns this season. Olandis Gary is third on the team in rushing with 45
carries for 195 yards and a TD.
Davis missed most of last season with a hamstring injury. In five games,
he rushed for 282 yards and two touchdowns on 78 carries.
The four-time, 1,000-plus yard rusher was named MVP of the league in 1998
after rushing for 2,008 yards and 21 touchdowns. The Broncos went on to win
the Super Bowl that year. Since then, Davis has only played in 12 games.
