The Packers travel to Soldier Field to battle the top team in the NFC
Central, the miraculous Chicago Bears, in the 161st regular-season
instalment of this classic “Black and Blue” division matchup.

The Packers secured a 21-20 come-from-behind victory over the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers last Sunday due primarily to the resurgence of RB Ahman Green,
who earned Player of the Week honors for his impressive outing. The
second-year starter got back to where he left off earlier in the season,
accounting for 218 of the Packers’ 352 yards.

Coach Mike Sherman realizes that Chicago is fully deserving of its
first-place position and that his second-place Packers have one of their
toughest tests of the season ahead.

“When we did our offseason study of teams within our division, our scouts
and personnel people ranked the Bears as one of the more talented teams in
the division, if not the most talented team…They’re certainly showing that
talent this season,” said Sherman. “I gotta take my hat off to [Bears coach]
Dick Jauron and their team”

Jauron’s Bears have been this season’s Cinderella story, winning
back-to-back games in dramatic fashion with their Week 8 win over Cleveland.
Against the Browns, a last-second Hail Mary forced overtime and second-year
safety Mike Brown returned an interception for the game-winning touchdown in
the extra period for the second straight week.

“This defies imagination,” said Brown, who picked up the Defensive Player
of the Week award. “If a book was written about it, I don’t think anyone
would believe it. It seems like it’s fiction. I don’t know how to explain it
— higher power, luck, destiny, whatever you want to call it.”

The Bears have won six consecutive games and are brimming with newfound
confidence. Will the luck continue this week, or will the Packers overtake
Chicago for the top spot in the division?

SERIES HISTORY: The Packers have won the past seven meetings at Soldier
Field and 12 of the last 14 games overall to pull within 83-71-6 in the
history of this storied 80-year rivalry. Green Bay’s seven-year winning
streak in Chicago is the longest such active streak in the NFL.

The last encounter resulted in a 28-6 win by the Packers on December 3 of
last season at Soldier Field. Green rushed for two TDs and QB Brett Favre
surpassed 3,000 yards for the ninth consecutive season with a 225-yard game.
